Renfields Hair and Beauty Infrared Heating
Renfields Hair and Beauty is located in Glasgow city centre in a newly converted unit. Since the Renfields brand is built around luxury customer experience, the appearance of the salon is an important part of its appeal. Prior to the opening, Renfields management contacted Redwell seeking a heating system which could be fine-tuned to their clients' treatment experience, while also enhancing their brand appeal.
Assessment
Bringing in a gas supply for a conventional heating system was going to be costly and practically difficult in the space available. Since customers would be expecting not just a haircut but a therapeutic experience, the new system would need to be flexible enough to work for individuals while also contributing to the wider design scheme. With equipment constantly in use and clients entering frequently, temperature fluctuation was also an important consideration.
Recommended measures
With the conversion in process, we had an opportunity to circumvent the problems of convection heating with a new infrared system.
- Flexibility: infrared panels would work with the salon's shape. Panels could be fitted on any flat surface and angled for directional heat - enhancing individual experiences.
- Space: flat infrared panels would free valuable space, improving capacity and client comfort - more space means less clutter throughout the salon.
- Consistency: with salon temperatures constantly changing, infrared would allow for individual control of each room while the main area could be split into 3 'heating zones' - maximum consistency in every corner of the premises.
- Customisation: our infrared panels could be customised with printed artwork or matched to surrounding colour schemes to reinforce the aesthetic. Unobtrusive mirrored panels could even serve a practical dual-purpose.
- Therapy: infrared heat offers therapeutic benefits for skin and joint conditions, maximising each client's experience during their salon visit.
Installation
To create the new customised heating system, we installed following Redwell products to complement the salon's modern aesthetic:
- Reception - 3x Rollingwaves (in silver, bronze and white): Spherical, smooth and stylish, Rollingwaves heaters also serve as an eye-catching ceiling feature.
- Staff room, Customer WC, Clinical Room - 3x Largerounds: These unobtrusive circular panels are subtle and space-saving and can be mounted to ceilings or walls.
- Tanning Studio - 1x Largewave R600 Mirror Panel: The mirrored heating panel stands as a practically useful dual-feature for clients getting changed.
- Salon Hair Stations - 8 x R800 Glass Panel: Mounted with bespoke brackets, these angled white glass panels provide directional heat into the space below.
- Thermostat Control: Salus programmable thermostats used throughout.
Results
The new heating system created a huge amount of space, letting the salon 'breathe' while complementing the design philosophy of the Renfields brand. Thermostat control also means temperatures can be adjusted quickly and precisely, saving energy and money. The salon’s transformation demonstrates how infrared technology can be greater than the sum of its parts: delivering heating results while working with crucial elements of its environment.
